easyJet wins Best Low Cost Airline

British airlines including easyJet and British Airways have triumphed at the prestigious OAG Airline Industry Awards.
easyJet won Best Low Cost Airline for the first time. The budget airline beat last year’s winner jetBlue, while Ryanair, Jetstar Airways and Southwest Airlines were also shortlisted for the award.
The OAG awards are voted for by business travellers and despite its much publicised woes this year – not least because of the shambolic opening of Heathrow Terminal 5 – British Airways clearly remains popular with many passengers.
BA retained its crown as Best Transatlantic Airline and also won Best Business/Executive Class, which had been won for the previous five years by Continental Airlines.
The other UK airline to win an OAG award was Virgin Atlantic, which was voted Best Airline Based in Western Europe. Lufthansa was commended in this category, and also shortlisted were BA, Air France, and KLM Royal Dutch Airlines.
The main award – Airline of the Year – was won by Singapore Airlines. The country’s main international airport, Singapore Changi, was also voted Best Airport.
“The level of service and innovation that Singapore Airlines and Singapore Changi have consistently offered the travelling public is reflected by the way OAG subscribers, the world’s frequent fliers, have voted,” comments OAG CEO, Alan Glass.
Singapore Airlines also won Best International First Class, while American Airlines won Best Economy Class.
The Air Canada customer service team based at Heathrow airport won the Outstanding Service Award for their fundraising work for young children in South Africa.
