Emirates Airline to fly A380

Emirates Airline will be the second airline to fly the Airbus A380 superjumbo when it receives the first of 58 new planes in July.
Emirates will deploy the new plane on flights from Dubai to Heathrow, New York and Sydney-Auckland. Full details of the new service are yet to be announced.
“The A380, with its large capacity and excellent operating economics, will be one of the pillars of Emirates' future growth. We've been working very closely with Airbus since the A380 programme’s inception back in 2000, and all through the ups and downs from the drawing board to production, we have remained unshakable in our belief that this is the aircraft for the next chapter of aviation,” says Emirates chairman and chief executive, Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum.
The Middle Eastern airline is the largest customer for the A380 with a total of 58 on order. Emirates will receive five A380s by the end of March next year. All of these will have the ultra long haul configuration of 489 seats: 14 in first class, 76 in business and 399 in economy.
The A380s operated by Emirates will offer fuel economy as low as 3.1 litres per 100 passenger kilometres, which the airline points out is better than the average 4.4 litres per 100 vehicle kilometres offered by hybrid cars.
“Despite the high oil prices, for us, demand remains strong and the A380’s combination of range, capacity and fuel efficiency will help Emirates to continue achieving our growth targets,” says Al-Maktoum.
