Gatwick Airport launches action plan

Following on from Stansted and Southampton, London Gatwick Airport has opened a 16-week public consultation period on its draft noise action plan.

"We know noise from Gatwick Airport is a concern for local people," said Andy Flower, managing director of London Gatwick Airport. "We are committed to managing our impact on those communities surrounding the airport which are most affected by our operation.

"Aviation brings many economic and social benefits to the region which must be balanced against its impact on the environment. At Gatwick Airport a sustainable approach is an integral part of running our business. It's built into our culture and driven by our senior leadership team, so that we have the right processes in place to deliver strategy and manage our business safely and responsibly. This plan will demonstrate further commitment to achieving our aim to be a responsible neighbour."

The noise action plan, which is required to comply with European regulations, is a five year plan highlighting the measures London Gatwick Airport will take to manage and mitigate noise. The final plan, which will take into consideration issues raised during the consultation period, will be submitted to the Secretary of State for Transport later this year.
