Gatwick prepares for bank holiday rush

London Gatwick Airport is readying itself for a frenetic weekend as British travellers shun the much-publicised 'staycation' in preference to heading to sunnier climes overseas.

The UK's second busiest airport is anticipating up to half-a-million passengers to pass through its doors as they look to experience a bank holiday weekend with guaranteed sunshine. Friday is set to be the busiest day of the period, with approximately 126,000 passengers jetting out.

Mike Luddy, London Gatwick Airport commercial director, said: "Holidays are all too precious. That's why it's crucial we make the most of our downtime while we can. So we need to make sure we enjoy our bank holiday, relax, unwind and switch off."

Research carried out by Gatwick Airport has revealed that far from completely unwinding while on holiday, UK holidaymakers are spending valuable vacation time in a state of worry. Nearly a quarter of those surveyed admitted to having had holidays ruined entirely through stress and an inability to relax, while 32% found everyday worries creeping back into their psyche even before leaving the resort.
