Manchester airport backs World Swimming Champs

Manchester airport is sponsoring the World Swimming Championships which are taking place at the MEN Arena in Manchester from 9-13 April.

The FINA World Swimming Championships will bring around 800 of the world’s best swimmers from over 130 different countries to the city, and many of them will arrive at Manchester airport.

Five times world swimming champion and local boy James Hickman, who is head of PR for the event, says: “It’s fantastic news that Manchester Airport are on board as it will enable us to offer a warm and friendly welcome to the elite athletes and dignitaries attending the event”.

Recently swimmers from Manchester University swimming club stripped down to their racing costumes to try Manchester airport on behalf of the hundreds of elite swimmers who will be arriving for the biggest sporting event in Manchester since the Commonwealth Games.

Construction of the pool has now begun at the MEN Arena as the city gets ready for the championships. “The excitement within the swimming fraternity is really beginning to build now with key athletes intensifying their training. Some of the planet’s best swimmers will be in Manchester to hone their skills for the Olympic Games in Beijing just a few months later,” says Hickman.

Tickets for the World Swimming Championships are selling fast, but are still available for most sessions. Prices for the morning heats start at £8, whilst finals tickets are priced from £18 to £30.
