New cruise ship naming in Dover

[9th June 2008]

Carnival Cruise Lines' new cruise ship Carnival Splendor will be christened by TV presenter and musician Myleene Klass at the port of Dover on 10th July.

Carnival says Splendor is the largest "Fun Ship" ever constructed, and she will become the largest cruise liner ever to sail from Dover. Capable of carrying 3,006 passengers, the 113,000 ton Carnival Splendor will set sail from Genoa on 2nd July for an eight day European cruise, ending up in Dover.

Former Hear'Say singer and The One Show presenter Myleene Klass will become godmother to the new ship and will use English sparkling wine rather than the traditional champagne to christen her.

Immediately after the naming ceremony Carnival Splendor will embark on a three day preview cruise to Amsterdam before returning to Dover on 13th July. On the same day she will begin the first of a programme of 12 day Northern Europe cruises departing from Dover.

Carnival Splendor will sail from the port of Dover until the end of August. She will then set sail on a transatlantic crossing from Dover to Fort Lauderdale in Florida, from where she will begin a schedule of seven day Caribbean cruises.

The new cruise ship has been designed for family holidays, and her facilities include a 5,500 square foot play area, a children's water park and four swimming pools including one with a 214 foot long twister waterslide.
