Scottish travellers flying long-haul

According to reports from BAA, Scottish holidaymakers are looking further afield for a summer holiday that won't break the bank.

With the pound continuing to struggle against the euro, holidaymakers have been tempted into discovering a host of far-flung destinations, ranging from Turkey to the Caribbean.

Amanda McMillan, managing director of Glasgow Airport, said: "The strength of the euro is great news for inbound tourism but obviously makes a family holiday or city break within the eurozone more expensive.

"However, with more capacity to destinations such as Turkey, Egypt and the Caribbean, Scottish holidaymakers can still enjoy a relaxing family break without necessarily breaking the bank. Anyone still deciding where to holiday this year will be amazed how far their budget can take them this summer."

To cope with the demand for holidays to long-haul destinations, Scottish airports are furthering their selection of routes. For example, new flights are being added to the Glasgow Airport schedule to this summer to the Dominican Republic and Cuba.
