Singapore Airlines voted Best Airline

Singapore Airlines has been voted the Best Airline in the world in the annual Which? Awards.

Also recently honoured as Airline of the Year in the OAG Awards, Singapore Airlines beat off competition from a shortlist that comprised Air New Zealand, Jet Airways from India, and UK airline Palmair, which has only one plane.

Singapore Airlines received the coveted Which? award in a ceremony held at the British Museum after a survey covering 71 airlines and more than 30,000 long haul and short haul flights by the consumer magazine.

Which? gave Singapore Airlines top marks for the helpfulness and efficiency of its iconic cabin crew and for its in flight dining. The airline was also praised for its check in, the cleanliness of its aircraft, comfort and in flight entertainment.

Palmair, which has just one plane – a 34 year old Boeing 737 – flies from Bournemouth airport to a number of destinations in the Mediterranean and around Europe including the holiday hotspots of Tenerife and the Algarve. MD David Skillicorn told the Guardian: "We are just little Palmair with a little Boeing 737 yet we beat off the likes of Virgin Atlantic and British Airways”.

Singapore Airlines has had an exceptional year, becoming the first airline to fly the new Airbus A380 superjumbo in October 2007. In March the airline also began flights on the A380 from Heathrow to Singapore.

A new Airbus A380 – the fifth in total – is expected to be added to the Singapore Airlines fleet by the end of this month. The airline also has firm orders for another 15 of the new planes, plus an option to purchase six more.
