Vietnam Airlines orders Boeing Dreamliners

Boeing has won more orders for its new generation 787 Dreamliner airplane from Vietnam Airlines taking the total number of orders for the new plane to 802.

Vietnam Airlines is purchasing four Boeing 787-8 Dreamliners, and will lease another eight from Vietnam Aircraft Leasing. The list value of the new airliners is around $2 billion.

“We are proud to be one of the launch customers of the 787 Dreamliner and look forward to putting these new generation airplanes into operation. We believe the Boeing 787-8s will help Vietnam Airlines to effectively expand its current fleet and network, and increase its capabilities for further growth and sustainable development,” says Vietnam Airlines president and ceo, Pham Ngoc Minh.

The 787 Dreamliner is part of a new generation of more environmentally friendly aircraft. The Dreamliner is said to use 20% less fuel than existing airplanes of a similar size. Other innovations include a new interior environment with larger windows, cleaner air, improved lighting and more space to store cabin baggage.

Meanwhile Brazilian low cost airline GOL has ordered 40 Next-Generation 737s from Boeing, bringing its total order to 127. Boeing claims that the Next-Generation 737 is the most technologically advanced single-aisle airliner, with the lowest operating costs in its class.

“This new contract will help to further reduce our costs and allow us to continue to modernise our fleet with owned aircraft while offering our passengers the lowest fares in the market,” says GOL technical vice president, Fernando Rockert de Magalhaes.
