British weather spoils long weekend

People that are planning on visiting tourist destinations around the UK this Whitsun bank holiday could be frustrated by the weather.

The Met Office has reported that the currently sunny weather that many people in the country are enjoying is set to change over the long weekend. In its place, the organisation is forecasting cold, wet and windy weather for nearly all the UK.

While Saturday is predicted to remain relatively fine in many areas - making it a good day to visit tourist destinations around the country - the weather is expected to change overnight.

Sunday and Monday look like they will be far colder with strong winds which could hamper travel plans and outdoor activities.

"The key message is that people should consider the weather forecast when making their plans for the bank holiday weekend," explained Met Office senior forecaster Steve Willington.

"A change to much poorer weather is expected and this comes in stark contrast to the recent warm and mainly settled weather."

A recent report from esure also suggested that traffic congestion could add 40 minutes to journey times over the long weekend.
