Love 'likely' on holiday

Many people who will jet off on holiday this summer will find love while away, new research suggests.

Figures released by HostelBookers.com show that 13 per cent of travellers said they had found a 'serious romance' while on holiday. On setting off, just five per cent expected to find love, showing that holiday romances often come out of the blue.

Similarly, around half the people questioned by the site said they expected a holiday fling while abroad, but two thirds of people said this has actually happened while on holiday.

David Smith, the general manager of HostelBookers.com, said that holidays give people the chance "to free themselves from the domestic drudge and explore a life they may otherwise never find".

He added: "Travelling the world can be a very liberating experience; these figures demonstrate that attitudes and expectations can change dramatically whilst away."

Figures released by Saga last year show that 10.5 million people from the UK say that they have had a holiday romance during their life.
