Multi-stop tickets 'still popular'

Despite increasing concerns about the environmental impact of long-haul flights, round the world tickets will remain popular, an industry expert has said.

Haydn Wrath, managing director of Travel Nation, said that these types of multi-stop tickets will enjoy enduring popularity as they allow people to travel in a flexible and cost-efficient manner.

He explained: "They are always popular. They always have been and always will be.

"There are more instances of older people taking career breaks."

Mr Wrath added that people tended to avoid destinations where there was a perceived risk when planning their round the world trip.

"It's not that everyone tends to go to the same places, rather people avoid certain places - usually for terrorism or climatic reasons," he said.

"There are certain parts of the world that people suddenly don't go to, for example Bali, because of the bombs there."

Despite apparent public attention on the emissions produced by air travel, Mr Wrath concluded by saying that many customers were still not interested in offsetting the carbon produced by their trip. He explained that people tend to think of it as "someone else's problem".
