Bristol 'popular with Ryanair customers'

Advanced bookings suggest that the new routes that low-cost carrier Ryanair recently introduced at Bristol International Airport are proving to be very popular.

The airline said that over 100,000 passengers have booked flights from the hub since it became a Ryanair base just eight weeks ago.

Popular routes from the airport include new services to Dinard, Knock, Derry, Milan, Bratislava, Katowice, Porto, Poznan, Rzeszow, Wroclaw, Salzburg, Budapest and Riga.

In total, the Irish airline expects to carry 1.2 million passengers to and from the south-western airport over the next year.

"Since we launched these new routes at Bristol, we've been inundated with bookings," explained Ryanair's Caroline Baldwin.

"This unprecedented demand has seen over 3,000 Bristolians a day snapping up our low fares to new destinations such as Milan, Dinard, Knock and Derry.

"Ryanair have seen passenger numbers go through the roof because we're giving Bristolians exactly what they want - the lowest fares guaranteed and best customer service."

Meanwhile, Ryanair claimed victory over its rival easyJet after punctuality figures showed that the Irish airline performed better than its competitor in the first half of 2007.
