Amid predictions that the inclement weather in the UK is set to continue into August, British Airways (BA) has seen long-haul booking numbers soar.
The airline reported that long-haul bookings for August rose 20 per cent when compared to last year.
In particular, UK holidaymakers are opting to fly to the US to take advantage of the strong pound and competitively priced flights. Cities like New York, LA, San Francisco and Boston all appeared in BA's list of top five long-haul destinations.
BA also reported that sales of tickets to European destinations were strong, with many Brits planning trips to Paris, Rome, Nice, Madrid and Barcelona.
"August is set to be another bumper month. More than half of customers are choosing to stay within Europe as they go in search of sunshine to escape the torrential rain we have experienced across the UK," explained Robert Boyle, BA's commercial director.
"Further afield, the US continues to be the destination of choice for long-haul travellers as holidaymakers continue to benefit from the weak dollar."
Recently, Ryanair reported that it received more bookings when the weather was poor.
