Airline Bans Some Foods

In an attempt to stop the spread of foot and mouth disease, a low-cost carrier has revealed that it will ban passengers from taking a number of foodstuffs onto its planes.

Monarch said that passengers would no longer be allowed to take any meat or milk from any animals susceptible to the disease onto flights from the UK.

A statement from the airline reads: "This ban includes sandwiches, packed lunches and food for self-catering holidays including fresh, chilled, frozen, tinned, preserved and processed products.

"A great selection of tasty hot and cold snacks and meals, including sandwiches, are available to purchase onboard Monarch flights.

"Foot and mouth disease presents no risk to humans but does pose a threat to animal health. It can be spread to susceptible animals through a variety of food products. It is therefore important that you do not take the above food items abroad."

Monarch currently flies from several UK airports, including Gatwick, Luton, Birmingham, Manchester and Aberdeen.

It flies to a number of popular holiday destinations like Alicante, Barcelona, Faro and Ibiza.
