Ryanair has revealed that it plans to add two new planes to its fleet based in Dublin and use the extra capacity to offer new routes and increase the frequency of services to the UK.

The new craft will mean that the low-cost airline can launch six new routes to various European destinations - including Basel, Budapest, Katowice, Nice, Prague and Szczecin. These new services will being in October and November.

In addition, the $140 million (£70 million) investment will mean that Ryanair can increase the frequency of services between Dublin and the UK.

From November, the airline will fly to Birmingham International Airport and Edinburgh four times a day; to Bournemouth nine times a week; and to Manchester five times a day.

Announcing the growth Ryanair deputy chief executive Michael Cawley said: "The events of this past week confirm that Aer Lingus cannot be trusted or relied upon to secure access to and from the Republic of Ireland on key routes to the UK and Europe.

"These new aircraft will enable Ryanair this winter to significantly increase frequencies and services on 12 of Ryanair's existing routes at Dublin.

"Ryanair's combination of guaranteed lowest fares, best on-time performance, fewest lost bags, fewest cancelled flights continues to attract record passenger numbers and growth."

Recently, Ryanair said that it would replace services if Aer Lingus puts in place plans to cancel flights from Shannon to the UK.
