Delta inaugurates Nigeria services

Delta Air Lines has launched its first flights between the US and Nigeria.

Delta Air Lines has commenced flights to Nigeria, which it claims are the only direct services between the US and the African country.

The carrier offers a daily non-stop service between its hub in Atlanta and Lagos, Nigeria.

These flights build on Delta's existing connection between Atlanta and Johannesburg via Senegal and its service between New York JFK and Accra, Ghana.

Glen Hauenstein, Delta's executive vice-president of network planning and revenue management, said: "We are pleased to begin our next wave of service expansion between the United States and Africa.

"As a leader in global aviation, we continuously look to develop high potential new markets. Africa has a significant and rapidly growing demand and we're proud to be the only US airline to offer service to the continent."

Delta will offer a second daily non-stop service to Nigeria in 2008 when flights to the African country launch from New York JFK on June 9th.

Other developments next year will include new flights to Nairobi, Kenya; Cape Town, South Africa; and Cairo, Egypt.
