Etihad to serve Beijing

United Arab Emirates airline Etihad Airways has announced that it will begin services to Beijing next year.

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates (UAE), has announced that it will launch flights to Beijing next year.

The carrier will begin services from its base in Abu Dhabi to the Chinese capital from March 30th.

While Beijing will be Etihad's first destination in China, it will be the eighth location in the airline's rapidly expanding Asia-Pacific network, which includes services to Sydney, Manila, Singapore and Bangkok.

The operator also flies to London Heathrow and Manchester airport from its Abu Dhabi hub.

James Hogan, Etihad chief executive, said: "Beijing has established itself as one of the world's fastest growing and most popular destinations and we anticipate tremendous demand for this new Etihad service from customers across our global network.

"There is a huge appetite from business and leisure travellers for flights to Beijing, especially ahead of the 2008 Olympic Games, and we look forward to bringing the UAE and China closer together."

The Abu Dhabi-Beijing flights will be scheduled to connect with many of Etihad's services from hubs including Heathrow, Dublin and Bahrain.
