Govt Security Measures Welcomed

The announcement of new security measures to be implemented at airports and train stations has been welcomed by Flybe.

UK airline Flybe has welcomed the prime minister's announcement that new security measures are to be imposed at airports and major railway stations across the UK.

In a speech to the House of Commons Gordon Brown outlined a number of measures that will be introduced, including more passenger searches and baggage screening.

There have been concerns expressed that the changes will further complicate the process of travelling to and from the UK, but Flybe praised the "strict attention" that had been paid to the issue.

The airline also welcomed the announcement that the limit on the number of bags passengers are able to carry on planes is set to be progressively lifted from next year.

"Flybe compliments the prime minister for paying such strict attention to the nation's security," said Mike Rutter, the airline's chief commercial officer.

"We welcome the progressive removal of hand baggage restrictions as a clear signal that aviation is more than capable of managing its own complex security affairs. The regions of the UK rely on aviation and those passengers know how seriously their airports and airlines take this issue."
