Oneworld opens first joint lounge

The first airport lounge developed as a joint oneworld alliance project opens its doors today.

Airline group oneworld alliance has opened the first airport lounge in the world developed as a joint project by its carriers today.

The facility, which is divided into separate areas for first and business class passengers, has opened at Los Angeles International airport's Tom Bradley terminal.

British Airways, Cathay Pacific and Qantas collaborated on the design and development of the facility and all business and first class passengers flying to Los Angeles with these carriers will be able to make use of the lounge.

Premium passengers with Japan Airlines and LAN, the other two oneworld airlines who operate from the airport, will also have access to the facility.

The lounge will include plasma screen televisions, nine showers, internet cafe-style workstations, wi-fi access and a bar.

Ken Gilbert, oneworld's vice-president of customer experience and airports, said: "With the space available at Los Angeles, combined with the redevelopment of Tom Bradley international terminal, the best option all round was for our member airlines to develop a joint lounge.

"It has enabled them all to offer their most important customers a facility that is much bigger and better equipped than any of the airlines could provide individually."
