Virgin launches Jamaica service

Virgin Atlantic has commenced flights from London Gatwick to Jamaica.

Virgin Atlantic has launched its first direct services between London Gatwick and Kingston in Jamaica.

Virgin president Sir Richard Branson and local VIPs greeted travellers as the inaugural flight landed in Kingston on October 30th.

The 451-seat Boeing 747-400 will operate the twice-weekly flights to the Jamaican capital, which is the airline's eighth destination in the Caribbean and 30th location worldwide.

Virgin Atlantic has offered twice-weekly flights between Gatwick and Montego Bay since July 2006 and carried over 70,000 passengers on the route to date.

Sir Richard said: "We are delighted to be able to offer new flights to Jamaica so soon after we launched our Montego Bay services last year.

"We are doubling Virgin Atlantic's capacity between London and Jamaica to almost 200,000 seats a year."

Virgin Atlantic operates out of London from both Gatwick and Heathrow, which offer a number of airport lounges and hotel options.
