The large, comfortable rooms put some more-expensive hotels to shame, but the fantastic, friendly Thyme restaurant is what really draws in experienced travellers. They know it's the perfect place to find familiar food with a minimum of fuss. In fact, regular travellers know the trick with airport hotels is to pick the Premier Inn for precisely what they need at a price they can afford.

You can check in from 3pm. Parking overnight at the hotel will cost £6. When you head up to your room, you can expect comfort that outstrips what you paid and a lot of purple. There's Freeview TV and free wifi in the rooms, but you can pay a little extra for faster internet if you need it. The room has blackout curtains, air conditioning and the bed will be exceptionally comfortable.

You're in for a treat at the hotel's Thyme restaurant. It has the same kind of atmosphere, service and food that you'd find at your local family pub. The dinner menu is available from 17:00 to 22:00, then you can head into the bar and toast your holiday until 01:30.

The Premier Inn Breakfast is bigger and better than ever. Choose as much as you want from the mouth-watering menu, including succulent sausages, crispy back bacon, eggs the way you like them and beautifully baked pastries, with fresh juices, tea and unlimited coffee. Ask hotel reception to book a taxi to the airport for you. This will cost around £8.

When you get back, just catch a taxi back to the hotel. This may be more expensive if you didn't arrange it through the hotel.

Premier Inn with parking at Airparks

On the day of your stay

Drive to the hotel - directions and a postcode for satnavs will be on your booking confirmation. Park in the hotel's car park overnight (this costs £10) and check in for the night.

On the day of your flight

Drive to Airparks. When you arrive, drive into the car photo booth. A member of the team will check you in while you stay in your car and then direct you to the relevant parking zone. You'll be given a ticket which you need to keep safe. Keep hold of your car keys and make a note of where you've parked for when you get back.

The included shuttle bus runs to the terminal regularly, 24 hours a day. It takes around 14 minutes.

Coming home

Once you've collected your luggage, take the shuttle back to Airparks and collect your car.

Everything went very smoothly, facilities good, staff very helpful, but a bit difficult to fine with sat nav
