Love is definitely not in the air this Valentine's season according to HolidayExtras.com. Feeling in the mood for love, the UK's market-leading travel add-ons company asked customers about their Valentine plans this year. A lacklustre 71% said they had nothing special lined up and would just go with the flow.
And a cold-hearted 2% of those surveyed admitted they were even planning to dump their partner on Valentine's Day. A sadly perceptive 1% of HolidayExtras.com customers thought that they might get dumped before the big day.
Surprising to some perhaps, it wasn't just the men who couldn't be bothered with hearts and flowers: 62% of the women polled compared to 58% of men had made no special plans for 14 February.
There was some hope for the minority of British romantics among us, however, with 16% of those polled confiding that they were cooking up a wonderful romantic treat for their loved one (16% of men and 14% of women).
Let's hope the 10% of HolidayExtras.com customers who had high expectations for their partner's surprise plans were not sorely disappointed on Sunday.
Mike Whiting, managing editor at HolidayExtras.com, said: "The country seems to be heading for a Valentine's flop, which is quite sad. What better excuse is there for a mid-winter break? I'd be searching for a post-Valentine's bargain right now if I hadn't already planned something really special for Mrs Whiting."
