Coronavirus Singapore and Travel Insurance

In response to the ongoing Coronavirus outbreak, authorities in Singapore have set up additional screening measures at airports and ports. There are currently 117 confirmed cases of Coronavirus in Singapore (6th March 2020).

In order to contain the spread of COVID-19 in Singapore, local authorities have implemented the following measures preventing transit through or entry into the country for the following:

  • Foreign nationals who have travelled to mainland China within the last 14 days.
  • Foreign nationals who have travelled to Iran, northern Italy or the Republic of Korea within the last 14 days.

Additionally, visitors to Singapore who exhibit symptoms of fever and/or respiratory illness will be required to undergo a COVID-19 swab test on arrival.

What is Coronavirus?

First identified in Wuhan City, China on 31st December 2019, Coronavirus, or COVID-19, is a new strain of coronavirus which affects the respiratory system and presents with flu-like symptoms. The World Health Organisation has got detailed information about the virus, including up-to-date situation reports and travel advice.

Protecting Yourself From Coronavirus

At present there is no vaccine or cure for the Coronavirus, but there are several steps that you can take to minimise your risk of infection.

  • Frequently and thoroughly wash your hands with soap and water and use an alcohol-based hand gel throughout the day.
  • Catch any coughs and sneezes in a tissue, then dispose of the tissue immediately.
  • If you know someone who is, or has been unwell, try to avoid contact with them as much as possible.
  • If you have a cough, fever or flu-like symptoms, seek medical advice as soon as possible.
  • Keep up-to-date on developments surrounding COVID-19 and follow Governmental advice.
