Although you may think that going on a cruise is not possible if you're on a budget, there are so many options for the budget traveller and families you really needn't worry.

How can I get a cheap cruise deal?

You should sign up to cruise company newsletters and follow their social media to find the latest deals and last-minute discounts. Some cruise liners will also publish competitions, which you can enter with the chance of winning a discount or a free holiday.

You should book ahead if you're planning to travel in the peak season as cruises get booked up quickly and prices will rise nearer the time of the cruise. Booking early will give you both the best prices and the best availability.

Package deals are a great way to save on a number of factors such as flights and food. By using a package deal, you'll have all your expenses pre-paid and you'll often save a lot more than if you booked everything separately.

You do not have cancellation cover in place until the date your policy commences so you may want to consider taking a cruise travel insurance policy out as soon as you book the cruise... just to be safe!

Examples of cheap cruise lines

MSC Cruises: These adult cruise ships normally tour in winter and cost around £499 per person, travelling between Miami and the Caribbean for over a week.

Carnival Cruises: The kings of budget cruises, Carnival Cruises start from £449 per person and are easily accessible, starting their voyage near the large and bustling airport of Miami to travel into the Caribbean.

Holland American Line: These traditional cruises give you the classic cruise experience at realistic prices, starting at £499. Whether you choose to book early, use a package deal or simply book through the cruise company's website, with these prices, you'll soon be sailing off into the sunset.
