An alternative to Halifax Travel Insurance

Holiday Extras provides travel insurance policies from just *

You can still find Halifax on the high street and pay in a cheque — nothing's changed there. As of March 2018, Halifax no longer offers travel insurance to customers with current accounts.** We are here to help.

Halifax's website reassures that this will not affect customers with existing, in-date policies and the future of their claims:

We no longer introduce Halifax Travel Insurance. From the 26th March 2018 existing policies will end at the expiry date. This will not affect existing customers that already hold a qualifying current account where travel insurance is provided as an added benefit of the account.

Rather than settle for cheap travel insurance that doesn't sufficiently cover you, you can get a quote for an affordable Holiday Extras insurance policy which you can tailor to your suit your personal needs. As of 2020, Holiday Extras have been voted the best insurance provider 12 years in a row by the Globe Travel Awards and we're rated excellent by Trustpilot. With us, you can find the best travel insurance policy for your specific needs, tailored around whatever style of holiday you plan on having.

Compare travel insurance cover levels

Our efficient booking process is designed with you in mind. Rather than be overwhelmed with a hundred different options, we've designed our policies with you in mind.

We have two policies depending on the frequency of your travels: a single trip policy to cover you for that one holiday a year, or an annual policy for an unlimited amount of trips within a 12 month period. From this point, you can then tailor your policy with a choice of four levels of cover, each differently priced to reflect a tier of essential to a higher premium level of cover.

Tailor your travel insurance policy around your holiday

After you've set a date and picked a destination, you can then start to think how much and what type of cover you will need to ensure you're protected on holiday.

Failing to get a policy with sufficient medical or cancellation cover can work out to be fairly costly should you need to make a claim and aren't covered for the full amount. Additionally, if you're going on an active holiday it is equally important to ensure you have adequate cover for any sports or activities you might partake in. If your policy does not reflect your situation it could be rendered invalid.

With a Holiday Extras policy you are already covered for 100+ sports and activities as standard, as well as insured for medical costs up to £10 million and cancellation cover up to £5,000.

Medical insurance

While no one ever wants to be in a situation where they have to use it, in an emergency it can quite literally be a life-saver. Medical cover is one of the main reasons people take out a travel insurance policy, as having to pay for emergency medical treatment out of your own pocket while abroad can be very pricey. The Association of British Insurers (ABI) estimates that there are roughly 3,000 people a week who make a claim for medical treatment while on holiday, which adds up to a whopping £200 million paid out every year. Travelling without insurance can end up being a very expensive oversight and not a decicision that most holidaymakers consider to be very wise.

With policies offering up to £10 million worth of medical cover can be very valuable should you need treatment while abroad. The amount of cover you have is an especially important consideration if you have a pre-existing medical condition that might increase your likelihood of needing more specialist medical treatments should the situation arise.

Cancellation cover

Either having to cut your trip short, or even forego your whole holiday entirely due to unforeseen, insurable circumstances is less than ideal. With the right cancellation cover included in your travel insurance policy it can make the world of difference. Rather than go completely out of pocket and lose the money you invested in each aspect of your holiday — from flights and accomodation, to airport transfers, airport hotels or airport parking — your policy offers a financial protection to cover your holiday's overall cost.

Policies for a variety of customers

Making sure your holiday isn't overcomplicated is very important to us. We realise not everyone will be buying a single trip policy for themselves — you might be planning a holiday as a group of friends, a family or a couple. We offer policies for all travelling parties, with family travel insurance, policies for grandparents travelling with their grandchildren or annual family travel insurance.
