Essential items to take interrailing

One of the most important items that you can take with you is insect repellent and mosquito nets, especially if you're travelling in the summer. This will ensure that you're able to enjoy your holiday without itchy and uncomfortable skin and protect yourself against infected bites, during the night.

Another staple of any interrailing bag is taking plasters. Interrailing involves a lot of walking, and its nearly impossible to avoid cuts and blisters around your heels and ankles, especially if you've bought new trainers for the occasion.

You should also pack copies of all of your important documents such as your passport and inter-railing pass in case of theft or loss. This also means that you can leave these documents in your hotel room when you go on day trips. These documents should also include a copy of your interrail travel insurance, in the event of an emergency.

Shoes for interrailing

It's advisable to take a pair of well-worn trainers that are still in good condition. Whilst you don't want to find holes in your trainers on the second day, making sure that you've broken in your shoes is vital when you're going to be walking a lot. This will hopefully help you to avoid blisters and other foot problems.

You should also pack hiking boots or walking shoes which will help you to maintain your pace when walking for a long period of time or taking part in sporting activities.

Washing clothes while interrailing

While it may not always be possible to find washing facilities when abroad, there are many different methods to wash your clothes from using your hotel room sink or making use of the laundry services that many hostels offer. To decrease the amount of washing you need, try to pack light and only carry essential garments with you. There's also the option of underwear made from antimicrobial fabric, which could allow you to go a few days without washing!

Interrailing can be difficult, but its challenges are made much less difficult with the right equipment and preparation for your trip.
