Best airlines for travelling with a baby
By Jonathan Clarke
The inaugural Holiday Extras Customers' Awards were held in late 2009 and saw Aer Lingus named as the best airline for travelling with a baby.
This was based on the votes of nearly 18,000 travellers. British Airways was named runner-up in the category. As the winner of our award, we, like our customers, consider Aer Lingus to be the best airline for travelling with babies. Ireland's flagship airline, Aer Lingus is based in Dublin and flies to destinations across the UK, Europe and, through its partners United Airlines and Jet Blue Airways, the United States. In their own words, Aer Lingus flights offer 'extra comfort and convenience to families such as pre-assigned seating, pre-boarding and bassinets on long-haul flights'.
As the winner of our award, we, like our customers, consider Aer Lingus to be the best airline for travelling with a baby.
Here are some of the views of our customers:
"There was a single lady travelling with two young children on my flight seated ahead of me. The cabin crew were helpful with putting luggage in the bins, etc."
"The cabin crew were really helpful."
"Since staff were exceptionally helpful, I would assume travelling with babies would be well supported."
Also recommended by our customers was British Airways. When you're booking with British Airways you can request children's meals, extra legroom, cots and special seats for babies. You can take your buggy right up to the departure gate and young families are allowed to board the plane first. In addition, babies under two years old are only charged 10% of the adult's fare.
When you're booking with British Airways you can request children's meals, extra legroom, cots and special seats for babies.
On a British Airways flight, babies can sit on their parent's lap, in approved forward-facing car seats and, when available, a bassinet or special infant seat. There are baby food, milk storage and heating facilities and children's meals are served first. British Airways also provides nappy-changing facilities and goody bags for children.
While many other airlines offer excellent facilities for travel with children and babies, we wouldn't hesitate to recommend flying with either Aer Lingus or British Airways if you're planning to travel with your baby.
