Checking-in windsurfing equipment at Gatwick

By Jonathan Clarke

Getting your windsurfing equipment to the airport is easy with HolidayExtras.comWhen taking your windsurfing equipment on holiday with you, there's no option but to check it into the hold before you fly.

Let's face it, all that equipment - windsurfing board, sails, etc. - is certainly far too big to qualify as hand luggage.

At Gatwick you have three options for checking in your windsurfing equipment and large bags. The first is the day before check-in. This is a great service, particularly if you're staying at one of our airport hotels. You'll be able to head straight for the airport, check your bags into the hold and then go and stay without the hassle of carrying all that kit about with you. British Airways, easyJet and Thomson Airways offer this service at the North Terminal, and easyJet and Virgin Atlantic at the South.

You can also take advantage of online check-in. You'll need to put your bags in the hold when you arrive, but it means you can head straight to the fast drop rather than wait in long queues. Online check-in is usually available from two to 24 hours before departure. The following airlines have online check-in at the North Terminal: Adria Airways, British Airways, Emirates, Qatar Airways, Brussels Airlines, easyJet and Malev. The following airlines have online check-in at the South Terminal: Air Baltic, Aer Lingus, Air Malta, Aurigny, easyJet, Iceland Express, Flybe, Monarch Airlines, Ryanair, TAP Air Portugal and Virgin Atlantic.

The third and final option at Gatwick airport is the self-service check-in. You'll be able to use a computer to check yourself in, choose your seat and print your boarding card. You'll then need to take your windsurf gear to the bag-drop area where airline staff will be on hand to help you. British Airways and Delta Airlines at the North Terminal and Virgin Atlantic, Flybe and Norwegian.no at the South offer this service.
