Travel site lastminute.com reported that Brits have been booking short breaks to European cities throughout the summer and more have booked trips in the coming weeks.
In particular, trips to Rome, Madrid and Athens have proved very popular. Booking to each of these cities have increased by over 100 per cent when compared to last year, the site claimed.
Other popular city break destinations include Venice, Istanbul, Nice and Malaga.
John Bevan, the managing director for lastminute.com UK, commented: "This trend confirms how upset Britons are that there was no summer in the UK this year.
"Following the beautiful days we had in 2006, a lot of people decided to holiday at home or stay in the UK to enjoy the country at its best, and now want to go away to catch a glimpse of summer whilst they still can."
Recently, a UK thinktank suggested that the government should consider introducing a new bank holiday to give people the chance for a short break in November.
