New runway set to last 15 years

New runway surface for Aberdeen airport

Runway resurface at Aberdeen

Aberdeen airport is about to undergo a multimillion pound project to completely resurface its runway this year.

Starting at the end of March BAA hopes to have the work completed by October. The top layer of the runway will be completely replaced, with work set to be carried out during the night in order to minimise disruption to flights. The new surface is expected to last up to 15 years and is part of the airport's ambitious expansion plans.

BAA Aberdeen’s Airfield Manager Darren Williams said, “The full re-surfacing not only entails replacement of the asphalt surface but also sees energy efficient LED lighting installed for the very first time, and improvements to large areas of taxi-way."
