Superjumbo makes inaugural flight

The Airbus A380 superjumbo has made its first commercial flight from Singapore to Sydney.

The Airbus A380, the world's largest passenger airliner, has completed its maiden commercial flight from Singapore to Sydney.

Singapore Airlines launched its first flight using the plane at 01:25 BST on October 25th, landing in the Australian city at 08:25 BST the same day.

Over 450 passengers made the journey, including a ten-month-old boy and a 91-year-old man, both from Singapore.

Brits accounted for 11 per cent of the passengers on the plane, while Australians (28 per cent) made up the largest proportion, followed by Singaporeans (14 per cent).

Russell Balding, CEO of Sydney Airport, said: "I am especially delighted that Singapore Airlines has chosen Sydney Airport as the destination of this very special flight."

He added: "Many of the airlines that fly out of Sydney are committed A380 customers - which means that Sydney will be seeing many more A380 flights in the years ahead."

The return leg of the flight will leave Sydney for Singapore tomorrow and scheduled services will begin on October 28th.
