Airport security has never been better and Liverpool airport is no exception. There are a number of security checks that all passengers must go through before being permitted to board an aircraft. Among the most tightly monitored is hand luggage and baggage allowances. Passengers will be restricted as to what is allowed on a plane and it's always best to check what's OK and what isn't before you leave. Even some seemingly innocuous items are forbidden so make sure you familiarise yourself with our guide before you depart.
Most airlines will allow passengers to carry up to a certain weight in baggage in the hold. This may vary by aircraft and airline and it's best to check with your airline before you pack your bags.
Hand baggage size guidelines: Hand luggage is not allowed to exceed the designated size, with a few exceptions. The Department of Transport recommends that baggage does not exceed 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, however some airlines will apply their own restrictions. The following airlines have their own restrictions in place. Laptop bags will be screened separately and count towards your hand luggage allowance.
Forbidden items: Some items are not permitted on-board an aircraft in hand luggage under any circumstances. It's recommended you avoid trying to take any of these items into the aircraft with you. For a complete list on what you're not allowed please contact your airline.
Liquids restrictions: It's essential that you check that all liquids you intend to take on the aircraft adhere to the guidelines set out by your airline and airport security. Liquids are tightly monitored for security reasons.
Liquids containers must be no larger than 100ml and not exceed 1 litre in capacity. The containers must be stored in a clear, re-sealable plastic bag no larger than one litre. Each passenger is allowed one bag for liquids which must be presented for inspection at security.
At Liverpool airport the following materials are classed as liquids;
Medicines may be exempt from the quantity restrictions but will be subject to authentication. Baby food and milk is also allowed in larger quantities, but you may be asked to taste the substances at security. Re-sealable plastic bags can be purchased from vending machines inside the airport on level three before security.
