Chester Zoo's Frost Fair

November 2007

Chester Zoo held its first Frost Fair last year and the event proved so popular that they're bringing it back again - bigger and better than before.

Helping the Frost Fair be one of the coolest events of the year will be former Olympic and European ice skating champion Robin Cousins. Robin's company Cousins Entertainment - who are responsible for the competition rink used in Dancing On Ice - will be setting up a huge ice rink at the Frost Fair which will be the size of three professional tennis courts, double the size of last year's rink. Robin Cousins will be a special VIP guest on November 29th.

Robin Cousins won the Olympic gold in 1980 before scooping the world free skating championship gold medal three times. Since he gave up skating at a competitive level Cousins has worked with Holiday On Ice and choreographed an array of television and stage blockbusters including Disney's Toy Story and Andrew Lloyd Webber's Starlight Express on Ice. Robin often commentates for the BBC as well as being head judge on ITV's Dancing On Ice.

"We are delighted to have on of Britain's all time sporting greats help us kick off this year's spectacular," said Liz Child, visitor services manager at Chester Zoo. Liz Child went on to say: "It's fantastic to have him helping out the zoo's team like this."

This year's Frost Fair certainly promises to be something special for all the family. Along with the giant ice rink there'll be a colourful line up of costumed carrots, Santa's grotto, animation shows, gifts, craft stalls and seasonal refreshment to help get the Christmas cheer going in the run up to the festive season.

The Frost Fair kicks off on November 16th and will run until January 13th with the exception of Christmas Day ad Boxing Day when the zoo is closed. With a wide array of fascinating animals at home in the 110 acre zoo, Chester Zoo is a great place for a family short break. Book your tickets today with Holiday Extras.
