ABTA Travel Buddy is a new free service created to provide essential holiday information to travellers via email and mobile phone.
The new communication system has been partly funded by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and will enable the travel association's member companies to send their customers an email containing Know Before You Go and destination information before they travel.
The service will also include free text messages to locate travellers in emergency situations and supply essential information and guidance.
Mark Tanzer, ABTA Chief Executive, said: ABTA is providing this service to Members at no cost to help them provide exemplary customer service, particularly at times of emergencies when fast and effective information is needed. Mobile phones are now used by nearly everyone when they travel.
The email will help ABTA members provide information they are required to under the Code of Conduct in a clear format and includes details of FCO advice, reminders about the importance of travel insurance and relevant recommendations to visit a health professional before travel. There is also space for ABTA members' own essential travel information.
