Can I carry a first aid kit or is one available?

Can I carry a first aid kit or is one available?Although the thought of an emergency during your flight is unpleasant, it's best to travel prepared.

While most airlines will provide a comprehensive first aid kit on board, there is no reason why you cannot carry one of your own.

When flying with a baby, it is a good idea to carry some items with you that could be used if they become unwell or if they suffer a minor injury. We suggest carrying the following items during your flight:

✔ Thermometer
✔ Neosporin. Accidents can occur during turbulence such as the spilling of hot water. This cream can be used to bring relief should your baby suffer a burn
✔ Bandages and plasters. Any minor injury can be covered with a bandage or plaster, which will also protect against infection
✔ Paracetamol. This is a very important addition to any first aid kit. Calpol in small sachets are ideal for flights, since they will prevent you exceeding your liquid allowance when passing through security
✔ Hand sanitiser. Before treating any burns or cuts, it is advisable to use hand sanitiser. This will ensure that you do not infect the cut or wound you are treating.

Taking these items with you allows you to be prepared for any eventuality on board. Your airline is likely to have a small supply of first aid packs, but it is very important to carry your own, as you never know if what you need will be on board the flight.

"Take a baby sleeping bag on board the plane so that your baby feels comforted and has a sleep association with her, the same goes for a favourite toy or book."
