The government has given the go-ahead for a new £85 million guided bus route linking Luton and Luton Parkway railway stations with Luton airport.
The new busway will run for just over seven miles, all the way from Houghton Regis through Dunstable and on to Luton airport. Work on the project is expected to start early next year and to be completed by 2011.
The Department of Transport has approved a £78 million grant towards the project. The busway will be run jointly by Luton Council and Bedfordshire County Council and is intended to cut congestion and be more environmentally friendly. It is also considered to be the most cost effective option for improving public transport in the area.
The guided bus route will provide a useful additional way for travellers to get to Luton airport, particularly those travelling from their homes by train. Luton airport itself is committed to improving the environment and encouraging people to use public transport to reach the airport.
If you cant wait for the new busway to open but have booked a flight from Luton, why not begin your holiday early and stay in an airport hotel?
The Holiday Inn Luton South is a modern hotel conveniently located near Junction 9 of the M1 motorway. The hotel offers transfers to the airport 24 hours a day and a parking package is also available at the nearby Luton Airparks.
This stylish hotel has leisure facilities and a swimming pool, plus its own restaurant providing tasty meals in a relaxing atmosphere. If you have some free time on your hands before your flight, the hotel is also close to Whipsnade Wild Animal Park and the ancient city of St Albans.
