Reaching Edinburgh airport by car

Its position just eight miles west of Edinburgh city centre, and the abundance of signs, means that Edinburgh airport is easy to get to. Both the M8 and M9 motorways are close, and the airport’s entrance can be reached from A8 Glasgow Road.

Drivers approaching from Edinburgh should move onto the A8 from the city bypass, and drive towards Glasgow.

If you approach from the north or west, join the A8 at the Newbridge roundabout and drive towards Edinburgh.

Picking up passengers from Edinburgh airport

Leaving by public transport

Edinburgh airport is close to the city centre, so plenty of public transport links are available if you’re not planning to get picked up from the terminal. Your choice of transport provider will depend on a variety of things, including your budget Choose from the options listed below:

  • Train. Trains do not go direct from the airport, but the Waverly and Haymarket stations, in the city centre, can be reached by taxi or the AirLink 100 service, which takes around 25 minutes. If you are arriving late at night, a night bus runs between the airport and Waverly station.
  • Bus and coach. You can catch an AirLink 100, N22, or Service 35 bus direct from the airport to Edinburgh city centre. If you’re going further afield, the Jet 747 bus goes to Ratho Station and Inverkeithing station, while CityLink Air travels to Glasgow city centre.
  • Taxi. Find official pre-booked taxis managed by Edinburgh City Private Hire outside the east end of the terminal building. If you haven’t booked, you can get an official black cab outside the UK Arrivals building, beside the coach park.
