Five luxury airport hotels around the world

Hilton London Heathrow T5

Luxury airport hotels, Heathrow T5 Hilton

Just a mile from Heathrow, the Hilton at Terminal 5 is an immaculate, brand-spanking new pleasure palace of an airport hotel. Devoted to delighting every sense, guests can tantalise their tastebuds at the unique Mr Todiwala’s Kitchen or Gallery restaurant; indulge in all manner of treatments and hydrotherapy experiences in Imagine Spa; book a personal trainer to help work the body in the fitness centre; and take in the sights, sounds and smells of the beautifully landscaped gardens. Ducks, rabbits and a stream also included.

Dubai International Hotel

It’s Dubai (inside Terminals 1 and 3 of the international airport to be precise), and it’s a luxury 5-star hotel. That means a big, shiny beast of a hotel with 350 rooms of varying degrees of extravagance, including five royal or presidential suites; two health clubs with swimming pools; three fully-equipped business centres; and 15 restaurants and bars to choose from.

A temple to indulgence, complimentary chocolate, canapes and fruit juice are laid out for the lucky guests staying in suites. And if all that eating and drinking has taken it out of you, many of the rooms also feature massage chairs.

Sofitel Athens airport

This elegantly-styled 5-star hotel overlooks the Mesoghaia Valley as well as the runway at Athens airport. The 345 soundproofed rooms accommodate hundreds of pampered guests, who no doubt sleep soundly in their Greco-French inspired beds.

The two restaurants, Mesoghaia and Karavi, serve a choice of delicious Mediterranean food or gourmet French cuisine. This oasis of calm also features the Karavi Bar with an outdoor terrace overlooking the mountains; and Artemis Bar & Pergola tempting travellers with light bites and cocktails.

As well as massage and treatments on offer, there’s a fitness area which includes a pool and sauna. The hotel’s Golden Key concierges will happily sort transport and custom tours of Athens if you need a reminder of the real world.

Fairmont Vancouver airport

The only luxury hotel and spa located within Vancouver international airport was awarded the Best Airport Hotel in North America title at the World Airport Awards 2012. The Fairmont was also a 2012 Condé Nast Traveler Readers Choice Winner and the only airport hotel to feature in the Condé Nast Top 100 Gold List.

Guest rooms offer inviting yet luxurious interiors along with floor-to ceiling views of the runway action - soundproofed, naturally. Travellers looking for some hearty refreshment can choose from the Globe@YVR restaurant or the Jetside Bar; and the hotel is known for its daily Afternoon Tea. There’s also an impressive health club and spa in which to work off all that tea and cake.

Radisson Blu London Stansted

The Stansted Radisson Blu is famed for its contemporary luxury and the 13-metre wine tower at the heart of Angels’ Wine Tower Bar.

Guests opt for individually-designed bedrooms in one of three styles - Chili, Ocean or Urban - and can dine at Italian restaurant Filini, the relaxed TaPaell’Ya restaurant, or the New York Grill Bar. For a spot of pampering there’s You Spa, and a well-equipped gym and pool area for more active travellers.

The 4-star Radisson Blu is the only hotel at Stansted linked by a covered walkway directly to the airport terminal, rail and coach stations, for the easiest of transfers.

Just one more! I had to include the Custom Hotel in Los Angeles as a bonus hotel. It looks so cool, if not unashamedly luxurious. If anyone has been here please do let us know what it was like.
