It's clean, comfortable and close to the airport - but it's the warm welcome you'll receive that will make the Days Hotel Luton somewhere you'll want to go back to. The friendly staff make you feel instantly at home - though the lovely en-suite rooms, which all have air conditioning and soundproofing, help too. You also get a discount at the health club two doors down - which is just as well. The delicious food might be reasonably priced, but it's worthy of an expensive restaurant.

Our website writer Sarah Linney stayed at the Days Hotel on September 29. Read what she had to say on the Holiday Extras blog.

The Days Hotel features a restaurant, a bar, an ironing room, a cash machine and two meeting rooms. The bar has a plasma TV which shows Sky Sports and is open daily from 11am.
There are safety deposit boxes at reception which guests can use for free. The hotel also has a fax machine and a photocopier which guests can use.
The hotel is fully air-conditioned and double-glazed. Wireless internet access is available free on the ground floor. There is also a computer with internet access for guests who don't have a laptop, although there is a charge for this.
Free copies of the Independent newspaper are available from reception.
There is a sheltered smoking area outside the front of the hotel, with tables, chairs and plants. Wireless internet access is also available here.
You can set the TV to give you a wake-up call.

Rooms

All rooms at the Days Hotel Luton have soundproofing, air conditioning, an en-suite bathroom with a power shower, a king size bed, a hairdryer, a full-length mirror, reading lights, Sky TV, a radio, a desk, a phone and tea and coffee-making facilities. Broadband internet access and movies are available for a charge.
Twin rooms have a bath as well as a shower.
The hotel has 32 family rooms. These have two child beds, which are suitable for children up to 12 years old, and an extra armchair. Triple rooms are also available - they will have Z-beds - and there are eight interconnecting rooms.
Special offer: Holiday Extras customers can upgrade for free to an executive room if one is available. These rooms are called Work Zone rooms and are designed for businesspeople. They are larger than standard rooms and have an iron, an ironing board, two desks and a safe large enough to hold a laptop. You also get free broadband internet access, a complimentary snack and mineral water in your room, and a movie of your choice on the TV. However, the bed is queen size as opposed to king size. The hotel has 20 Work Zone rooms.

Room service is not available, but food is available 24 hours a day in the restaurant and you can take it up to your room.

Dining

The credit crunch no longer means you can't afford fine dining, thanks to the Days Hotel's new recession-busting dinner menu.
Steak, fish and chips, pasta dishes, vegetarian dishes, curries, meat dishes and salads are among the choices, and prices start from £3.95 for a starter and £7.95 for a main course.
Start with ginger chicken with soy sauce, then tuck into the Barnsley chop, an 8oz lamb chop with minted new potatoes and peas, before finishing off with rocky road chocolate brownies with creme fraiche.
Dinner is served from 5pm to 10pm but there is also a 24-hour menu, which includes Moroccan-style chicken with rice, spaghetti bolognese, sandwiches and soups. It is available in the restaurant or to take up to your room.
If you have special dietary requirements, the chefs will be happy to prepare you something that is not on the menu.
You can also have a packed breakfast delivered to your room. Breakfast is free for children under 12.

Check-in

The earliest check-in time is 2pm and the latest check-out time is 11am, unless otherwise arranged. If you are checking in after 11pm, you should ring the doorbell to alert the night porter.

Facilities for disabled customers

The hotel has six accessible rooms for disabled guests. These have wider bathrooms with wet room showers, emergency cords and grab rails. All accessible rooms interconnect with a twin room where a carer can sleep.
Flashing fire alarms and vibrating pillows are available for guests with hearing difficulties, and the hotel has a hearing loop. Guide dogs are accepted.
There are disabled parking spaces in the multi-storey car park.
