Dining

The Stanneylands hotel's restaurant has won two coveted AA rosettes for its fine English cuisine. Dinner is served from 7 to 9.45pm and offers four courses for £31.50, with coffee and petit fours after for £2.95. Your first course might be oxtail cannelloni with balsamic onion compote and red wine jus, with roasted plum tomato soup and creme fraiche and chive to follow. For a main, you could have slow-cooked belly pork with mustard mash, apple puree, curly kale and cider jus, or saffron and herb risotto with market fish and grilled king prawns. After, you could finish off with a white and dark chocolate terrine with mint-scented ice cream and Baileys chocolate sauce.
The same menu is offered for lunch from 12.30 to 2.30pm, but for £14.50 for two courses and £18.50 for three.
The restaurant serves breakfast from 7 to 10am, 7.30 on weekends and bank holidays. You can have your choice from a continental buffet with freshly-baked pastries and bread for £10.50, or a cooked breakfast with pork and leek sausage, black pudding, grilled black mushrooms, hash browns and eggs cooked to order, with any items from the buffet, for £14.50. You can even order special dishes, such as omelettes, salmon and scrambled eggs or grilled kipper, for an extra 45p!
