Airports closed as more snow falls
Travel updates for Friday February 6, 2009
Airports including Luton, Stansted, Bristol and Exeter have been closed and flights suspended this morning as heavy snow continues to cause travel chaos.
The Met Office has issued a heavy snow warning for parts of southeastern England today. Up to 10cm could fall on high ground, with up to 5cm elsewhere.
Flights at Luton airport have now resumed but are subject to cancellation and delay. Passengers are being advised to check with their airline before travelling. Check in for easyJet flights has been suspended. The rail shuttle bus service has resumed and trains are now running.
The runway at Stansted airport is now open but flights are subject to delays. Passengers are being advised to check in as normal but to allow extra time for their journey to the airport. The Stansted Express airport rail link is running a reduced service. Further snow fall is expected.
Bristol airport re-opened at 16.00 and a limited number of flights are now operating. Many flights have been cancelled today including departures to Paris, Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester, Malaga, Alicante and Faro.
The runway at Exeter airport re-opened at 8.30am following overnight closure due to heavy snow. Flights are now subject to delay. The 6.30am flight to Paris took off at 9.32am. The M5 motorway southbound has been closed between junctions 30 and 31 due to an incident causing estimated delays of 15 minutes. The Highways Agency expects normal traffic conditions from 12 noon.
Flights at Cardiff airport are also being disrupted. The 10.35 flight to Geneva has been cancelled, and there are delays to other flights.
As usual, the advice remains to check with your airline to find out if your flight has been affected.
