East Midlands airport gets busier
East Midlands airport continues to grow at a phenomenal rate, as 15.4% more passengers used the regional airport in November.
More than 373,000 people travelled from East Midlands airport in November. Scheduled flights had 18.1% more passengers this November than in the same month last year. This was largely due to the major low cost airlines including Ryanair, easyJet and bmi baby offering flights to a wider range of destinations.
Domestic flights from East Midlands airport actually fell in November, however, down marginally by 0.2%. Tour and charter flights welcomed almost 70,000 passengers, up 5.4% on last November.
As the countdown begins to the traditional Christmas holiday getaway, East Midlands airport is laying on some festive fun, including carol concerts, Christmas fairies to help find last minute Christmas presents, and a chance to enter a competition to win a holiday.
Already this year East Midlands airport has handled more than 5 million passengers, an increase of 14.4% on the figures for January to November last year.
This has been a successful year for the regional airport based near Nottingham. East Midlands airport won Best UK Airport at the 2007 British Travel Awards, and World's Leading Eco Friendly Airport at the World Travel Awards. In 2006 East Midlands airport became the first UK airport to commit to making its site operations carbon neutral by 2012.
