Terminal five, the largest free-standing building in the UK, is the latest addition to Heathrow Airport and is used exclusively by British Airways. It is estimated that terminal five will handle over 30 million passengers a year, making Heathrow the world's busiest airport with around 90 million passengers passing through the airport each year.

Parking at Heathrow terminal five

Heathrow terminal five floor plan

Heathrow terminal five is spread over three buildings, terminal 5A, 5B and 5C. Terminal 5A is used for domestic flights while long-haul routes will operate from terminal 5B. The purpose of terminal 5C has yet to be confirmed and is not due to open until 2010. The areas and services are all well sign-posted and separated into clearly defined zones.

Terminal 5A: Terminal 5A contains a check-in hall, a departure lounge with retail stores and other passenger services, and a baggage retrieval hall. Departing passengers enter the departures level on the 3rd floor after taking one of the lifts or escalators from the interchange plaza.

Terminal 5B: The main terminal and terminal 5B are linked by a train that can travel between terminals in just 30 seconds.

Terminal 5C: Terminal 5C is the second satellite building, scheduled for completion in 2010.

Heathrow terminal five has a huge range of facilities that will cater for the needs of all travellers. You will find a wide selection of high street stores, newsagents, restaurants and cafés as well as information desks, disabled toilets and bureaux de change.

Cafés and restaurants
Take a visit to Gordon Ramsay's celebrated Plane Food restaurant in terminal five or choose from Carluccio's Italian menu. Other highlights include Wagamama's noodle bar, Huxley's traditional British dishes and the Bagel Street bagel house.

Bureaux de change
There are Thomas Cook and Travelex bureaux de change desks at check-in, departures and arrivals to provide foreign currency for your holidays.

Internet access
There are a number of internet kiosks located throughout terminal five. Payments for internet use can be made using pound sterling or euro. There is also the option to plug in a network cable to get wired internet access. In addition, it is possible to make an internet connect via a number of designated wireless hotspots situated throughout terminal five.

Toilets
There are five toilet blocks available in the departures concourse and are two toilet blocks located at either end of the terminal 5b building. There are also four toilet blocks located throughout the gate level.

Information desk
There is an information zone in the arrivals area on the ground floor. Passengers arriving at the terminal should turn right when reaching the arrivals area to find the information zone. There are computer help terminals to provide advice, directions and travel information. Members of airport staff are also available to offer further advice. Additional help points have been installed in key locations around terminal five.

Chapel
There are multi-faith prayer rooms available in terminal five, both before and after security. They are located in the check-in area before security control, in the departures area near gate seven, and in terminal 5b.
