Best European Skiing Destinations

With over 37,500 kilometres of ski slopes and over 15,000 ski lifts, Europe is one of the best places in the world to take in unparalleled panoramic vistas, fresh powder and never-ending runs for both seasoned skiers and nimble newbies alike.

To help you decide where to visit this season, we've come up with a list of all-rounder resorts with the perfect amount of snow, scenery and ski culture to suit all.

Courchevel, France

Nestled deep in the French Alps, Courchevel is one of the three major French resorts that make up Les Trois Vallées, widely regarded as the crème de la crème of European skiing. Head slightly further south of Courchevel 1850 to the village of Moriond for cheaper accommodation options and quieter nursery slopes for beginners. With a ski pass that links Les Trois Vallées, you'll be skiing from valley to valley in no time.

Cortina D'Ampezzo, Italy

If you're after fun, food and a friendly atmosphere, the Italian ski resort of Cortina D'Ampezzo is much more laid back than its French counterparts. The spectacular glacier-carved profile of the Dolomites earnt this mountain range UNESCO World Heritage status and it's easy to see why. Surrounded by stunning vistas and the setting of the 1956 Winter Olympics, Cortina D'Ampezzo maintains a magical yet modest charm making it the perfect destination for skiers of all abilities.

Kitzbühel, Austria

Think cosy Alpine villages, small town charm and an abundance of snow covered peaks. The Austrian resort of Kitzbühel has it all and more. The Austrians are renowned for their warm, welcoming presence and their 'foot-stopping but friendly après'. Ski all day and never repeat a run without breaking the bank with ski passes, lodging, dining and ski schools costing less than the more infamous French and Swiss resorts.

Verbier, Switzerland

If you're feeling fancy or looking for the most luxurious of all, Verbier is the place to visit. As glitzy as it is grand, the glamour never ends at this Swiss resort. Boasting some of the highest altitudes in Europe and with a big focus on off-piste and freeriding, there's no shortage of fresh powder and impressive runs here.

Tignes, France

Made up of five villages each with varying altitudes, Tignes is one of the most snow-dependable resorts in Europe. With over 300km of variable terrain, you don't have to be an expert to ski in Tignes. Highlights include the Grand Motte glacier and a myriad of après-ski bars and restaurants to relax and unwind in after a long and eventful day on the slopes.
