But if you've only got a weekend to spend in the Costa Blanca, never fear - check out our guide to getting the most out of your precious Benidorm days.
A Weekend in Benidorm for Families
Day 1
You've arrived in the Costa Blanca - hooray! Your well earned holiday starts here. First thing's first, you need to get from Alicante to Benidorm. The trip is 36 miles and should take you around 45 minutes, and depending on how much you want to do outside of the city, you may want to hire a car from Alicante Airport. Once you've arrived at your hotel, you'll probably want to spend a few hours chilling and recharging after your journey. Luckily for you, Benidorm is not short of a relaxing beach or two. For families, Poniente Beach is a fantastic choice. This 3km stretch of sand is one of the most relaxing spots in a sometimes hectic city, and is the perfect place to unwind and soak up some of that glorious Spanish sunshine. The seas at Poniente are also great for swimming.
When the sun starts to set, and your mind turns to feeding hungry mouths, head for Benidorm's Old Town, where you'll find a whole host of restaurants serving food from around the world.
Day 2
Up bright and early today for a trip to one of Benidorm's awesome theme parks. Whether you're a thrill seeker or a budding David Attenborough, there are countless options to keep both kids and adults busy for days.
Magic Natura
One of Spain's premier attractions, Magic Natura condenses a fantastic zoo, a water park and loads of restaurants, bars and shops into one fantastic resort. Whether you want to spend your day slipping and sliding down some of the best water rides in Spain (including for the daredevils amongst you, a unique ride which allows you to experience zero gravity), or getting to know the park's animals in their ground-breaking 'invisible fence' environment, Magic Natura is rightfully considered as one of Benidorm's best family days out.
Mundomar
For truly unforgettable experiences, Mundomar is the place to go. Offering once-in-a-lifetime opportunities to swim with dolphins and sea lions, become a trainer for the day or have your photo taken with some of the colourful animal residents, Mundomar is the perfect place to make some special holiday memories.
Day 3
For your last day in Benidorm, how about exploring a little more of what this awesome city has to offer? Although not widely known for its beauty, Beniorm has a lot of places which are very pretty, starting with the Balco de Mediterraneo, at the far end on Poniente Beach. This is not only a fascinating spot from the city's past, but offers the most stunning panoramic views over the bay and Benidorm's skyline.
From your viewpoint, you may be able to see one of Benidorm's best natural attractions; Isla de Benidorm. This small rocky outcrop jutting out of the sparkling blue sea is impressive enough from the mainland, but did you know that you can easily catch a boat to it for a closer exploration? A roundtrip from Levante Beach costs just €15, and the island itself, although not big, is a great place to spend a couple of hours. The water is teaming with fish, and you can take a submarine or glass bottom boat to get up close and personal with the colourful animals in their natural habitat. There's also a cafe on the island to grab a bite to eat after all that adventuring.
A Benidorm Weekend For Party Animals
Day 1
If you're going to Benidrom for one reason, and one reason only, you'll want to stay close to Levante Beach to be in the heart of the action. Board your transfer from Alicante Airport and get ready to party! When you arrive, head up to the Old Town to explore some of bars and clubs you will be heading back to when the sun goes down, and maybe grab some traditional tapas from one of the many restaurants in the area.
When the sun goes down, check out one of the fantastic clubs in the Old Town. With loads to choose from, you'll be spoilt for choice, but with foam parties, live house music and televised sports matches, you're sure to find something which tickles your fancy. Day 2
If there is one club which defines Benidorm, it's Penelope Beach Club and Disco. Occupying a prime position on Levante Beach, Penelope's is a place where you can turn up in the morning and keeping the party going until dawn the next day. The beach club opens during the day for quizzes, games and fun in the sun, before the disco comes alive with the pulsing sounds of house and r&b during the evening. A quintessential Benidorm experience.
Day 3
After a few late nights partying until sunrise, you might be in need of a little r&r on your last day. You won't need to go far, as Benidorm is first and foremost, a beach break destination. Beautiful Levante Beach is the perfect place to kick back and unwind in the sun, and maybe dip your toes in the refreshingly cool sea. Enjoy your last hours in the Benidorm sunshine by indulging in all those holiday favourite, ice creams, cold drinks and great company, all whilst admiring the most glorious views over the sparkling ocean.
A Weekend in Benidorm for Culture Vultures
Day 1
For exploring the best of Benidorm and the surrounding areas, we recommend hiring a car from Alicante Airport. This will give you the freedom to get the most out of your few days in the Costa Blanca.
Benidorm's Old Town is a beautiful part of the city, and steeped in history and architectural delights. It's also a great place to find your feet when you first arrive in the city. Head up to the castle viewpoint (aka the Balcon de Mediterraneo) for impressive views across the city and bay, and for a taste of the region's history. The castle itself is the remains of a 14th century fortress, so has plenty of tales to tell. A walk through nearby L'Aiguera Park is a great way to get to know Benidorm's peaceful side. The pathway stretches all the way down to the bullring, and passes not far from 'Tapas Alley', which is the perfect place to grab traditional Spanish dinner.
Day 2
Take the car out today for a taste of Costa Blanca outside Benidorm. Next door to the city is the Sierra Helada National Park, with trails and hikes taking in the most incredible sea views, borders by towering limestone rock formations and fragrant Aleppo pine trees. It is easy to lose yourself for a day amongst the natural beauty on display here.
In the afternoon, perhaps a trip to one of the nearby white villages? Altea, with it's beautiful narrow cobbled streets, cute white houses and traditional charms is a lovely contrast to the sleek modernity of Benidorm. Or, if you can't get enough of that wonderful nature in the region, head to Guadalest, with it's stunning, dazzlingly blue lake surrounded by rocky hills.
Once yu have returned to Benidorm, finish off your evening with a true local experience - a night at Benidorm Palace for dinner and a show. With prices starting from €34, and a variety of acts including tributes artists, live music, and a spectacular house production involving amazing costumes, dazzling sets and incredible choreography.
Day 3
An early start is on the cards this morning to finish your weekend in the Costa Blanca, for a brisk walk up to La Cruz de Benidorm. The walk takes about 45 minutes, at a reasonably steep gradient, but trust us, it's worth it when you get to the top. The magnificent cross that marks the top of the hill overlooks the sprawling city below, watching the sun rise to bathe the landscape in a golden glow is sure to be one of those memories you'll never forget. Early in the morning you'll have the place pretty much to yourself as well - an oasis of calm in an often hectic resort.
Coming back down to the city streets, there's still plenty more to explore in Benidorm itself. Bike hire is available throughout the city, if you prefer pedal power to explore the many churches, plazas and hidden architectural gems in Benidorm itself.

Airport Transfer or Car Hire?
Benidorm itself is a great city to explore on foot - many areas of the Old Town are in easy walking distance, and for anything a little further afield, bikes are readily available to rent and public transport is excellent. If you're planning on sticking around the city, an airport transfer is a great option for you.
