Green shops and dining at the airport

By Jon Vickery

When flying from your airport, you may like to know how you can be as green as possible when eating and shopping.

Firstly, it is worth considering the shops you buy from. The Body Shop prides itself on green products and ethically-responsible goods. Likewise, the Starbucks brand is synonymous with providing environmentally-friendly produce and promoting Fair Trade.

It is not always easy to be green when having a bite to eat at an airport. However, you can look for certain things before you order. Enquire with the person serving you if the food has been locally sourced. Locally-sourced food means it has only travelled a short distance to reach your plate, and hasn't been flown a long distance. This cuts down on the carbon emissions that transporting the food would create and also benefits local economies. You can also keep an eye out for organic food.

You can find full details of the stores and dining opportunities at many UK airports. Take a look at the HolidayExtras.com airport guides and see what is present at your airport.
