Baggage Allowance

Most airlines flying from London City airport now offer online check-in, and some even offer mobile check-in. If you’re checking in at the terminal, the desks are on the ground floor, on the right as you come in. If you’re flying with British Airways, Air France, Lufthansa, Alitalia, KLM, SWISS or Luxair, you can use the self-check-in machines – there are some in the terminal and some just outside the entrance, by the DLR station. British Airways customers can also use the machines to tag their own hold luggage.

We always advise getting to the airport in plenty of time for your flight, though it’s worth knowing that check-in doesn’t open until two hours before the plane leaves. If you’ve only got hand luggage, you may be able to check in remarkably late – 15 minutes before BA flights to New York, and CityJet, Air France and KLM flights (even with hold luggage, your latest check-in time for the last three is 20 minutes before the plane leaves). However, we certainly wouldn’t advise cutting it quite so fine and as a rule recommend aiming for nearer the two-hour mark to allow for unexpected delays.

Baggage allowance

You’ll need to check with your airline how much hand and hold luggage you’re allowed. One important restriction you need to be aware of is the rule concerning liquids, gels and pastes, which must be in containers of 100ml or less if you’re going to carry them in your hand luggage. They must also be taken out of your hand luggage at security and carried through in a clear, resealable 20cm x 20cm plastic bag. You can pack liquids of any volume in your hold luggage, though.

Book London City airport parking and hotels

If you’re driving to the airport, you’ll need parking for your car while you’re on holiday – so check out the great deals on our London City airport parking page. All our parking at London City airport is fully secured and within walking distance of the terminal.

There are currently roadworks near the airport, so we strongly advise booking one of our London City airport hotels for the night before your flight. We particularly recommend the Novotel London City airport, which is incredibly family-friendly – children receive a personalised gift when they arrive.

Dropping off passengers

You can drop passengers off on the terminal forecourt, but you’re not allowed to wait there or leave your car unattended.
