Lights, Camera, Action!

10 of our favourite cars from the big screen.

Have you ever watched a film or TV show and found that your favourite part is actually a car and not an actor at all? Sometimes the car steals the show, and that's fine! We love a good famous vehicle, so we asked around the office for our favourite 10. Here they are, in no particular order.

What's your favourite on-screen car? Let us know in the comments!

1. DeLorean DMC-12, Back To The Future

Think of all the things you could do with a DeLorean! You could travel back in time to see how the pyramids were really built, or forward to an unimaginable space age where AI has finally taken over. Let's be honest, it doesn't get much cooler than that. The DeLorean was launched into the spotlight by the Back To The Future franchise and continues to be one of, if not the most, recognisable on-screen car ever.

2. Herbie

Herbie - the world's first and potentially best self-driving car ever to exist. It beats Stephen King's Christine, that's for sure! Herbie can drive inexplicably fast but is prone to temper tantrums and loves to throw the occasional strop. We empathise.

3. Brum

Our office's favourite anthropomorphic car! Brum was a staple in any British 90s kid's childhood and has recently been updated to a CGI cartoon. Brum, much like the toys from Toy Story, would move around and go on adventures when his owner wasn't looking. Sassy.

4. Ferrari 250GT, Ferris Bueller's Day Off

This car is so cool! Ferris Bueller's Day Off - the film that reminds you to stop and take in the scenery every now and then - destroyed this car by letting it roll backwards through an open windown into a ravine. We can see why the parents in this film may not have been thrilled!

5. 1964 Aston Martin DB5, Goldfinger

This one's obviously perfect for those days where you just need to be a spy. It's suave, smart and full of essential spy gadgetry, incuding machine guns, a bullet proof rear window plate and an ejector seat. Along with the oil slick function, we'll take two!

6. KITT, Knightrider

KITT gives any spy car a serious run for its money. It has as huge shopping list of features, such as a smoke screen, medical scanner for its passengers, tear gas launcher, bomb sniffer and even an onboard computer printer - neat!

7. Fiat Cinquecento, The Inbetweeners

Simon's infamous Fiat Cinquecento. Gloriously yellow, rickety and adorned with delightful bumper stickers, not to mention the later mismatching door. The Fiat survived right up until the camping episode in Series 3, where the canary yellow car rolled into the lake, followed seconds later by a rock whistling through the rear window.

8. Mean Machine, Wacky Racers

The Mean Machine, or the Double Zero, was a purple, rocket powered cartoon car filled to the brim with hidden weapons and features. Oh, did we mention it could fly? The whole premise of this cartoon was essentially Mario Kart. Ironically, though every fictional car and character cheated 100% of the time, it's only ever Dick Dastardly's character that is labelled a villain. Talk about mean!

9. Robin Reliant, Only Fools and Horses

Could there be a more iconic car than this beauty? Only Fools is an absolute British institution and we all know, if it wasn't for the Robin Reliant, Del and Rodney wouldn't have been able to attempt half of their business ventures. The theme tune's in your head now, isn't it?

10. General Lee 1969 Dodge Charger, Dukes of Hazzard

The fav of our CEO, General Lee - the 1969 Dodge Charger from Dukes of Hazzard - must be one of the world's most famous muscle cars. You can't mistake the bright orange exterior and large confederate flag plastered over the roof. It's estimated that 309 models of the car were used in the filming of Dukes of Hazzard and only 17 survived!

Be sure to let us know your favourite famous cars in the comments!
